About chlorineprices.com
Pool chlorine is a commodity sold in a dozen sizes and strengths, which makes it hard to tell what's a good price. This site collects prices for 3" chlorine tablets and liquid chlorine from big-box stores, pool-supply retailers and online shops, and ranks them on a single number: what you pay per pound of chlorine.
How the numbers are calculated
Tablets: chlorine = net weight × available chlorine %. Plain trichlor tabs are 90% available chlorine. Multi-action tabs use the % on their label.
Liquid: chlorine = gallons × 8.345 lb × specific gravity × sodium hypochlorite % × 0.9525. Specific gravity rises with strength (about 1.17 at 10%, 1.21 at 12.5%), and 0.9525 converts sodium hypochlorite to available chlorine by molar mass. A gallon of 12.5% holds about 1.2 lb of chlorine; a gallon of 10% about 0.93 lb.
1 ppm / 10k gal is $/lb chlorine × 0.0835: the cost of raising 10,000 gallons of water by 1 part per million of free chlorine.
Multi-packs are divided down to one container. Shipping is not included in the ranking because it depends on your address and order size.
Where prices come from
Each price is read from the store's own public product page, and each row shows the date it was last checked: green within a week, amber within a month, red beyond that. In-store and pickup prices can vary by location. Amazon prices come live from Amazon each time the page loads and are never stored.
How the site makes money
Some store links are affiliate links: if you buy through one, we may earn a commission at no cost to you. Stores without an affiliate programme are listed too, and ranking is by price alone.
Safety
Never mix trichlor tablets with liquid chlorine, cal-hypo shock or any other chemical, including in a chlorinator or bucket: the reaction can be violent. Store chlorine cool, dry, and apart from acids. Follow the label.
