$/lb chlorine is the price divided by the pounds of available chlorine in the container, so a 50 lb bucket, a 10% jug and a 12.5% jug all compare fairly. How it's calculated.
What to know before buying liquid chlorine
Liquid chlorine is sodium hypochlorite, sold at 10% or 12.5% strength. A 12.5% jug carries about 30% more chlorine than a 10% jug of the same size, so price per gallon alone misleads; sort by $/lb chlorine instead.
It loses strength as it sits, faster when warm. Buy what you will use in a few weeks and keep it in the shade. Liquid adds no stabilizer and no calcium, which is why it is the go-to for pools where CYA has crept up.
